Naota is a normal Japanese 5th grade boy, but when Naota’s older brother leaves for America to play baseball, his brother leaves his homeless 17 year old girlfriend,Mamimi, behind. As Mamimi and Naota get closer to each other, Mamimi starts sendingmixed signals of attraction and advances towards Naota, and he doesn’t know what to do about her. To make matters worse, Naota’s world is totally turned upside down when he is run over by a woman riding Vespa. During their first encounter, she hits him over the head with her guitar, which then causes a horn to grow out of his forehead. The woman calls herself Haruko Haruharo and her presence changes Naota’s life to even further insanity.

Fooly Cooly is very insane in terms of its animation and story. The story focuses around the creatures and machines that come out of Naota’s head and then the battles that insure after. The animation style that is applied to Fooly Cooly is so hard to describe and name other than to name the style as experimental because of how many styles of animation are applied to each episode. Every time something comes out of Naota’s head, insane stretches and curves of animation come out. Many types of media are seen throughout the anime too. In two parts of the series, the animators mix manga and animation together. All of the other series by the same team of creators and animators are also in the same style of experimental animation. Though, I am more fond of the various experimental animation styles in Fooly Cooly and the other series than their stories.
